Gulf States will establish a development fund and a "partnership" with Morocco and Jordan

Riyadh: The leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) summit at the end of normal in Riyadh on Tuesday set up a fund development of the size of five billion dollars to Jordan, Morocco, emphasizing at the same time it seeks to "partnership" with the two countries.

The final statement said the summit decided to "create a fund to Gulf begin to provide support for development projects" in Jordan and Morocco, "in the amount of two and a half billion dollars for each state and cost of finance ministers in the countries of the Council study the basic structures required" to do so.

It also agreed to "consider the areas of joint cooperation and the formation of specialized committees of cooperation in this regard and down to the desired partnership."

The consultative summit of the leaders in Riyadh last May upheld the accession of Jordan and Morocco to the regional assembly to gain full membership, but the reservations of some member states and other opposition prevent this.

And said UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed another last month that "there is no objection to the very special relationship between the Council, Jordan and Morocco, but there is lack of consensus at this time to join" the two countries.

"The difference between the relationship is very special and full membership is very limited. Must learn from the experience of the EU, which speed up the inclusion of ten countries."

But the minister did not mention by name the UAE countries that oppose the accession of Morocco and Jordan.

The GCC was founded in 1981 from the six Gulf states, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and Oman.
