03/11/2011Iraq and Germany vow economic cooperation
Baghdad, Iraq and Germany vowed Thursday to cooperate in areas of industry, trade, agriculture and transports as the two countries signed a memorandum of understanding (MuO) in the capital Baghdad.
Ahmed Dali, Iraqi minister of industry and representative of Iraq's committee told a press conference following the signing of the protocol that the signing of the MOU will contribute to urging more German companies to come to Iraq for investment opportunities which in turn will contribute to the reconstruction of the country.
Currently, some 25 German companies work in Iraq. the majority of the German companies in Iraq work in areas of housing, health and construction.
Germany’s representative, and also German Vice-Chancellor Philipp Rosler told the conference that German companies had a "great desire" to work in Iraq.
"I have with me a delegation of 100 German businessmen representing the giant German companies... the presence of such a large delegation indicates our strong desire in opening new cooperation horizons with Iraq" he said.
Rosler said Germany was willing to build strong relations with Iraq "that does not confine to only economic, trade, agriculture, health and transport areas but all areas that consolidate bilateral relations between the two friend nations"
