11-20-20116th East Asia Summit wraps up in Bali
The 6th East Asia Summit has been held in Bali, Indonesia. It was attended by world leaders, including the 10 ASEAN member states and six dialogue partners -- namely China, Japan, South Korea, India, Australia and New Zealand.
Also attending the talks for the first time this year were the US and Russia. The East Asia Summit followed hot on the heals of the 19th ASEAN Summit.
The 6th East Asia Summit has come to a close. It resulted in two declarations: on Principles for Mutually Beneficial Relations, and on ASEAN Connectivity.

Leaders discussed broad and strategic issues of common concern at both regional and international levels. They also looked at ways of enhancing and strengthening cooperation on five priority areas: finance, energy, education, disease, and disaster management.
Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said the top priority for East Asian countries is to maintain steady and rapid economic growth, amid global financial turbulence. He urged nations to cooperate on realizing strong, sustainable and balanced development of the world economy.
The EAS serves as a forum for dialogue on broad strategic issues of relevance to East Asia, as well as other regional and global issues.
It seeks to promote cooperation on political and security issues, boost economic growth and integration, and secure financial stability.
