3 degrees Scorpio
As we draw nearer the close of 2011 it should be no surprise that celestial events such as this New Moon in Scorpio have profound influence upon our passage into greater awareness. If you had an opportunity to read my blog of September 21, 2011 you know that this New Moon coincides with an incredible surge of light that will circle the planet and give all of us an opportunity for expanded states of awareness.
With so much taking place energetically and in terms of this New Moon it is a challenge to know where to begin. Scorpio of course sets the stage for deep and profound experiences that expand upon our understanding of the cycle that is human existence here—birth, death, rebirth and regeneration. Issues of sexuality and other people’s values also become subject to scrutiny. Scorpio is likely where we penetrate the illusion by scoping the depth of our human-ness and understanding the truth of our experience here.
Once we surmount the notion of physicality and accept that we are eternal it places a new spin on those areas upon which Scorpio and the 8th house normally focus. Whilst contemplating this New Moon at 3 degrees Scorpio be prepared to be submerged in the deepest areas of the psyche where fears based upon ancient times lay hidden; where the potential for great transformation begins.
Scorpio with its laser vision hones in upon the areas that require healing and then offers these up to Ophiucus to be healed. And with the illusion dispelled, in Sagittarius, we then see the truth and disseminate that truth far and wide. What is it that we heal? It may have something to do with the human desire for individual power and a passion for conquering. The ego.
Nabonidus, the King of Babylon praying to the sun, moon, and VenusWhile examining the chart for this New Moon it suddenly occurred to me to look at the chart for October 26, 3,843 B.C. I had no idea why. I placed it at Akkad, Sumer (present day Karbala, Iraq very near Baghdad) as that was the city built by Sargon the “Ruler of the Four Corners of the World” just subsequent to the above date. He changed the face of the Mesopotamia Valley by conquering and dominating vast areas of this part of the world around 3,800 B.C.

The chart for this date has Venus at 21 degrees Scorpio just as the current chart has Venus at 21 degrees Scorpio. It is not as though Venus occupies Scorpio and that degree every year at this time—I checked. I felt there must indeed be some connection that was important to observe from this date B.C. to the present. What becomes clear if one studies the charts is the apparent lack of conflict the people of these times experienced.
The chart for 3,843 B.C. shows the Sun, Mercury, Saturn (25 degrees within 3 degrees of the current Saturn) and the moon in Libra, ruled by Venus, in harmony and balance. Mars at 2 degrees Scorpio (3 degrees in the Sabian Symbols) speaks of co-operation or the sense of community that comes from joint effort.
There may have been a community sharing mentality which supported a more harmonious way of being here on this planet at this time. Shortly after this time period seems to be when an aggressive desire for more erupted. Everything changed. A lack of security and stability may have generated fears to which we still bow.
During this New Moon in Scorpio at 3 degrees, 4 degrees when considering the Sabian Symbols, “a youth carries a lighted candle in a devotional ritual” which we might analyze as enlightenment arriving through openness to change. The old patterns no longer serve us and when light is shed upon the age old beliefs we see the many fallacies that our adherence to the familiar has created. We essentially have the power now to delete approximately 5,800 years of history give or take a decade or two. Those thought patterns will no longer exist and we will have the freedom to create based upon a different set of parameters. In fact there are no parameters we are simply free. Certainly nothing that we human beings have contrived for the ‘benefit of the masses’ should be considered seriously. We as individuals need to decide for our selves. And when we decide or choose based upon the highest good we automatically create from love and compassion.
Venus at 21 degrees Scorpio, 22 degrees in the Sabian Symbols stands for “socialization of instincts” and implies ascending to a new level of expressing our human-ness. The animal instincts to which we have been servant might soon become something that we master. It is not that our instinctive nature disappears but only that we no longer are controlled by it. For this ancient chart Chiron is at 24 degrees Aries which suggests a wound that has occurred within the masculine element.
The Black Moon Lilith, the divine element within each of us is in Cancer, the sign of the Mother. There is an implication that the wound is in fact generated in relation to the Mother. There is almost an exact bi-novile between these two suggesting the potential for an evolutionary shift to occur.
Images added by Phoenix: Below are pictures of Islamic Clerics in modern day Iraq observing the moon to note it's exact degree and phase so they may declare the start and end to major events within the nation of Iraq.
Now in the current chart the Black Moon Lilith is positioned in Aries while Chiron is now at 0 degrees Pisces—re-empowering the masculine that brings healing to the collective conscious.Do we return to a state of harmony and balance; to communal experience for the highest good? It is through Venus that we find our answer and the unconditional love and compassion that we have for all things based upon a sense of deep self worth. That I Am.
In the ancient chart there is a warning sign of what was about to occur in terms of expressed aggression and violence and that is Juno conjunct Venus. Juno is the feminine wronged and in allegiance with Venus may have precipitated a desire for more that was not to be ignored. There are stories of Sargon being favored by the Goddess Ishtar/Inanna and that she assisted him upon his quest. In the present chart, Mercury conjuncts Venus and in Scorpio represents the mind which wants to penetrate to the heart of a matter. This promotes understanding not a need for attention or recompense. Juno in the present chart conjuncts the Sun/Moon and would indicate the need to integrate this aspect of human nature in a way that creates understanding not separation.Mars which in the ancient chart is in water is, in the present chart, in Leo and fire and is in exact square to Venus and loosely trining BML suggesting circumstances which force a reckoning between a representation of the duality we experience here. The assimilation point is the BML in Aries and the eventual empowerment we all will experience through realization of the self as god.
As though all of this was not enough for one New Moon there is more!
And that is the grand square created with this New Moon and several fixed stars that should not be ignored. Conjunct the Sun/Moon is Princeps, the Prince, in the constellation Bootes, the Bear Keeper (within a few minutes), Talitha in Ursa Major, the Big Bear, is at 2 degrees 56 minutes Leo, Sheratan, 3 degrees 57 minutes Taurus and Algedi 3 degrees 54 minutes Aquarius. Not a common occurrence to have such a configuration.
So what does it mean?
Essentially that we cannot escape the healing of some ancient patterns that are at the root of some of our deepest issues. The constellations involved (Some of the stars have moved. Sheratan was in the horn of Aries the Ram and is now in Taurus. Algedi was in the tail of the sea-goat Capricorn and is now in Aquarius. This seems confusing but I think contributes to the ease with which we may move forward. (What was is no longer true!) have profound meaning in terms of the myth of human existence.
For instance, the sea-goat god Ea or Oannes of pre-Babylonian times taught human beings everything in order to assist them to “soften manners and humanize their lives”. Algedi in this constellation squares the Sun/Moon/Juno conjunction compelling a shift in perspective. We may utilize what we have learned from the past to light our way now. The nodal axis of the two charts is reversed in Gemini/Sagittarius.
Sheratan originally a part of the Ram which was sacrificed to Jupiter and hung in the Grove of Mars stands in opposition to the new Moon a reflection back to the past imbalances and the need for healing. The Bear is representative of the Mother in ancient myth and has constantly been under the watchful eye of Bootes the Bear Keeper.
All of these stories gather now for integration and transformation through the power of Pluto/Scorpio and elimination of “toxins” that do not serve us. Saturn exalted in Libra reminds us that there is work to be done so that we might experience harmony and inner peace and to cross the bridge into the next level of experience. We wouldn’t be here, perched on the edge if we were not prepared to leap. In fact we have already leapt. We are just waiting for the physical self to catch up. Enjoy this New Moon and the darkness it provides for our enlightenment!
