Iraq will head the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for the Middle East and South Africa, Iraq's Foreign Ministry reported.
Iraq's candidate Alaa Abdul-Sahib Alwan was elected the General Director of the WHO Regional Office.
Other candidates for this position were nominated from Egypt, Syria, Sudan, Yemen and Pakistan.
