Former Iraqi PM Underlines Zionist Regime's Fragility

Tehran - Former Iraqi Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jafari said that the Zionist regime of Israel is in a weak position since Islamic awakening and popular uprisings in the region have troubled the allies and supporters of the regime.

"The Islamic awakening in the Arab states has forced the great powers and regional rulers, who supported the Israeli occupying regime against the will of their nations, to give up support for the Zionist regime," Jafari told reporters on the sidelines of the 5th International Conference in Support of the Palestinian Intifada here in Tehran on Saturday.

He expressed the hope that the Tehran conference would become an axis of unity in the Muslim World and remove differences among political groups.

Jafari called for more frequent conventions and meetings against the Israeli regime, saying that all similar international conferences, including the Islamic Awakening Conference which was held in Tehran earlier this month, and the current gathering facilitate the collapse of the Zionist regime.

The 5th International Conference in Support of the Palestinian Intifada started work in Tehran today with Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei in attendance.

Over 50 parliamentary delegations and political figures, elites and intellectuals and many state officials from Muslim and non-Muslim countries are present in the event.
