Aquarius Full Moon, August 13, 2011 ...

Aquarius Full Moon, August 13, 2011

While the Sun moves through a new zodiac sign every month, the Moon travels at a different pace, visiting all 12 signs of the zodiac each month. At the time of the Full Moon, the Moon stands opposite the Sun, fully reflecting the sunlight and transforming it into the cool silvery light of the night sky. Full moons offer us a chance to reflect on the Sun's energy. When the Sun is in the sign of Leo, the Full Moon occurs in the opposite sign of Aquarius. At the Full Moon, we are asked to become aware of how the two opposite signs complement, rather than fight, each other so we can use their energies in the best possible ways.

The Sun in Leo engages our creativity, our child-like playfulness, our need to express ourselves in a warm, glowing way. Leo is the Sun-King, the Sun-Queen - the epitome of summer and life. The opposite sign of Aquarius is a wintery sign (in the northern hemisphere), a time of crystal clear, cold nights when the universe is spread out before our wondering eyes. In Leo, we look at our life here on Earth and create. In Aquarius, we look to the Heavens and wonder.

Right now, Aquarius takes on a greater significance, because we are slowly moving into the Age of Aquarius, when that constellation will rise at the Spring Equinox. At the moment, we are still in the tidal eddies created by the changing ages. As Pisces flows out and Aquarius surges in, we find ourselves in the chaotic moment of endings and beginnings. We also find ourselves challenged to become a conscious part of Earth's evolution. Thomas Berry, the great environmentalist, says we are entering a geological age where humanity is the power that will bring about the destruction of our planet or its re-birth. The Beatles got it right: this is not about destroying the old system (patriarchy) but rather taking what is best from the old and uniting it with the new. This revolution that is coming our way is supposed to be a peaceful revolution -- otherwise we will re-create the very things that need to die.

Aquarius' symbol is two wavy lines, one above the other. This symbol is a sign of reciprocal attraction. Perhaps that's why the "law of attraction' is so popular right now. The symbol implies that what we resonate to within ourselves attracts our outer lessons as well as our life purpose. "As above so below; as within so without' has never been more relevant to our development.

With Aquarian energy, the Individual becomes the Universal. We track our archetypal nature. Those of us who have worked to become conscious are the prototypes for the new human, the possible human that will thrive in this next great world Age. Aquarius, symbolizing the starry fields of heaven itself, is ruled by the planet Uranus, the Awakener, the energy that shakes us up with sudden and unexpected happenings. So for this Full Moon, be prepared for surprises and sudden changes in your life. We are on the adventure of a lifetime, so we might as well put on our hero/heroine attire and enjoy the ride.

What we have been learning is that when we consciously open to Spirit, the higher worlds respond. This is called the law of reciprocal action. "Reciprocal' means that something is given by each side so that there is an energy exchange. When we open ourselves to our higher destiny, we take in the vibrations of cosmic energy, the new Vision of Life being offered to us. When we make the effort to create and fulfill that vision here on Earth, we create magnetism, which puts us in synch with our higher purpose. Once again, the Aquarian symbol of doubled waves shows us that when we create harmony between Spirit and our Soul purpose, this new Age begins to manifest. We attract the life we are here to live.

We are the ancestors of the future, the grandparents of the Aquarius Age.

While Aquarius is a fixed AIR sign, we call it The Water Bearer. This Water is the psychic water of the Collective Unconscious, the World Soul. This Water of Life fills us with the archetypal patterns of being human here on Earth. Carl Jung said that the waters of the Aquarian Age would help us consciously work with the archetypes. I see this happening all around me as we prepare to take this next leap in our evolution. While most of the people on Earth still live in the patriarchal paradigm that divides us from ourselves and each other, many of us have taken on the task of consciousness to lead the way into the future. We are here to be the Light Bearers for the world. As our good brother Jesus said: You are the Light of the World! So shine out during this Leo/Aquarius full Moon -- shining is definitely a Leo trait!

Aquarius also rules the airwaves, the social networks that are becoming the glue of the next revolution of the human spirit. This Full Moon highlights the truth that when we truly become individuated (Leo) we can connect (Aquarius) as equals and work together.
The Full Moon occurs on August 13 at 11:59 am PDT/ 2:59pm EDT/ 6:59pm GMT. This Full Moon closely conjoins Venus, who brings beauty and wisdom and love to the mix. Venus reminds us that our hearts know more than our heads. Leo is connected to the heart as well, urging us to recognize the power of the heart that knows what life has to offer us.

The Sabian symbols for this Full Moon are interesting. I tend to play with the symbols, and urge you to do the same.

The Sabian symbol for the Sun at 21*Leo is: Intoxicated chickens dizzily flap their wings trying to fly. Dane Rudhyar sees this symbolizing "the ludicrous first experience with spiritual teachings'. Perhaps it indicates that many people will be waking up to spiritual experiences that they won't know what to do with. Rudhyar continues: "In near eastern symbolism, wine, intoxication and vineyards refer to ecstatic experience and to contact with mystical schools of thought. If beginners are prematurely engaged in mystical experiences, they can react in a highly confused and dizzy manner. The ego gets "high' but really can't fly." If people have a premature expansion of consciousness, they don't have the foundation to sustain it. But this is often how we all start on the road to consciousness. Back in the 60s, these experiences came to us through drugs. Now people are opening to spirit in many ways, and I believe it takes courage to risk our dignity and risk failure by attempting to engage in new beliefs. So let us all try to fly, even if we get dizzy!

The Sabian symbol for the Moon at 21* Aquarius is: A disappointed and disillusioned woman courageously faces a seemingly empty life. Rudhyar says that this symbol means "the capacity to meet emotionally upsetting experiences in human relationships with strength of character and personal integrity'. As this is the degree of my midheaven, I can say from experience that there is no "empty life'. There are just expectations that have not come to fruition.

These two symbols could represent the two sides of expectations -- the wildly ecstatic vision and the depression of not having that vision fulfilled. We have to learn that it is hard work to bring a new spiritual vision to fruition. If we want peace, we have to find it in our hearts before we can bring it to the world. If we want freedom, we have to release ourselves from our inner bondage. Harmony within creates harmony between us. With Leo's boldness, the vision will excite us; with Aquarius' resonance, we will attract what we have inside of us. So take the risk and find the vision, but hold on to your integrity and stand strong until that vision takes root.

The Sabian symbol for Venus at 20*Leo is: Zuni Indians perform a ritual to the Sun. This symbol indicates that it is time to link ourselves to the Earth's cycles -- the source of life. When we create rituals that anchor us to Earth's seasons, we sanctify these creative powers and use them with grace and truth. This Full Moon, go out and create a beautiful ceremony that celebrates our creative powers and sanctifies them for our common good.

Mercury is also very close to this full Moon. Mercury is retrograde until August 26th, drawing our Mind back to the issues of creative expression and personal individuation. What creativity lies within us that needs to be expressed? The Sabian symbol for Mercury Rx at 27*Leo is: The luminescence of dawn in the Eastern sky. This speaks to the breath-taking challenges of new opportunities at the beginning of a new cycle. It speaks about Illumination. So open your minds!

With Venus, the Sun and Mercury in the last 10 degrees of Leo, we are called to take heart action. On August 16th, these three planets join together at 24* Leo: Totally Concentrated Upon Inner Spiritual Attainment, A Man Is Sitting In A State Of Complete Neglect Of Bodily Appearance And Cleanliness. While I don't advocate this kind of bodily neglect, this symbol speaks to accessing our inner body of light rather than our outer comfort. We have to develop a relationship to inner spirit that does not preclude an acceptance of our physical nature.

Neptune moves back into Aquarius on August 4th for one last visit this century before it re-enters its own sign of Pisces again on February 3, 2012. At the Full Moon, it shows us a vision of spiritual unity. The Sabian symbol for 30* Aquarius is: Deeply rooted in the past of a very ancient culture, a spiritual brotherhood in which many individual minds are merged into the glowing light of a unanimous consciousness is revealed to one who has emerged successfully from his metamorphosis. This symbol is reminding us that we do have an ancient tradition of working together for the spiritual uplifting of the world. Rudhyar says this is "the ability for the person with an open mind and a deep feeling for self-transcendence to come in contact with higher forms of existence'. We can become spiritually aware and in that awareness, we understand that we are all ONE.

The Grand Cardinal Cross has been reactivated once again as Mars moves through the early degrees of Cancer. Mars entered Cancer on August 3rd and will square Uranus in Aries on August 9th, oppose Pluto in Capricorn on August 10th and square Saturn in Libra on August 25th. Watch for these energies to quicken now, since Mars is action oriented and tends to set things rolling. The square between Uranus and Pluto is within 1*, preparing us for the 7 squares between these two planets of evolution and revolution from June 2012 to March 2015. Once again, we have to remember that while it might take work to re-create our society, it must be done peacefully and with harmony. Let's give a peaceful death to patriarchy so that we begin a new paradigm of partnership on the right footing.

I will be enjoying this wonderful Full Moon in Aquarius in beautiful Rhode Island, a landscape of farms, forests, ocean, rivers, ponds and lakes. Even in the midst of chaos and change, there is still beauty in the world. I hope you find it this Full Moon!

Blessed Be!
Cathy
