Arab Parl't meeting gains special importance in view of current conditions - Al-Diqbasi

Cairo, Arab Parliament Speaker Ali Al-Diqbasi asserted that the Arab Parliament meeting due in Cairo on July 4-5 gains special importance in view of the current conditions in the Arab world.

Al-Diqbasi said, in a statement to the press on Sunday, upon his arrival to Cairo that tomorrow's meeting will mull a number of financial, administrative, media and organizational affairs related to the Arab parliament.

Al-Diqbasi also said that he will meet Arab League Secretary General Dr. Nabil Al-Arabi in order to discuss with him a number of Arab-related issues, particularly the violations of the Arab citizens' human rights and basic freedoms, noting that the issue of a statement by Arab Parliament calling for not resorting to armies to stay in, or assume power, along with calling for respecting the dignity of Arab peoples, and their right to express their views.

Al-Diqbasi pointed out that he will meet Head of the Iranian Interests Section in Cairo upon a demand made by the latter in order to arrange for holding an Arab-Iranian dialogue, noting that dialogue is important in this respect, and required when dealing with all world countries, particularly the major regional countries like Turkey and Iran in order to boost common interests and cooperation, and keep the ghost of war away from the region.

He also expressed his hopes that this meeting will lead to outcomes fulfiling the Arab Parliament's goals, particularly under such delicate and unprecedented conditions.

He also said that the Arab Parliament is interested in voicing the views of Arab peoples, who call for freedom, dignity, and to take part in the decision-making process.

Al-Diqbasi said that Kuwait is interested in many Arab issues, and finding solutions to the various problems from which the Arab citizens suffered before the eruption of the Arab revolutions like poverty, unemployment and desertification.

He added that the first Arab Economic Summit was held in Kuwait in 2009 under the headship of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who launched an initiative for setting up a fund at a capital worth USD 2 billion for subsidizing small and medium-sized enterprises, a project which came into being during the second Arab Economic Summit, which was held in Sharm Al-Sheikh last January.

He added that these economic summits addressed the real problems which the Arab world underwent, "because we think that Arab solidarity is no longer a luxury, but it became a necessity, and that economic interests became a path to the goals of achieving Arab solidarity, and Arab national security." Further, Al-Diqbasi, also a Kuwaiti MP, underlined the stability of Egypt because this meant the stability of the Arab world as a whole.

He also appealed to Arab countries in order to shoulder their responsibilities toward Egypt, which was and is still an advocate of Arab countries.

Al-Diqbasi was received upon his arrival to the International Cairo Airport by First Secretary at the Kuwaiti delegation to the Arab League Nawaf Al-Enezi.
