Talabani says he would accept resignation of his 1st Vice-President
Baghdad, Iraqi President Jalal Talabani said on Sunday that he would accept the resignation of his First Vice-President, Adel Abdul-Mahdi, if the latter insisted, denying the existence of differences from the position of the Premier of Kurdistan Region, Barham Saleh.
“We elected Barham Saleh for the post of Kurdistan Premier and we all support him, especially after his excellent performance in his post.
He has implemented great achievements in the fields of reconstruction and education,” Talabani told al-Sharq al-Awsat (Middle East) newspaper on Sunday.
Regarding the resignation of Iraq’s Vice-President, Adel Abdul-Mahdi, President Talabani said, “Yes, he has presented his resignation.
I have not yet accepted it; however if he insists, I shall..”
“The current political problem in Iraq can be settled, but it needs to be acted upon it without a mass media or political fuss,” Talabani said.
“I shall act in pacified means, contact and meet all political parties and suggest solutions that I hope will be accepted by all,” he added.
Commenting on reports that claim Iraq “lost its possible membership to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC),” the Iraqi President said, “We did not demand GCC membership.
When Iraq returns to full health, it won’t run with bated breath to join any Arab organization.”
