EU Internal Market and Services Commissioner Michel Barnier will visit Washington, DC, next week (June 1-3) for meetings with the US Administration, Congress, financial regulators and business leaders to discuss measures to strengthen financial markets, the EU's perspective on international financial reform, the implementation of the G20 commitments on financial services, and how to ensure that there is parallelism between the United States and the EU in all the regulation.
In Washington, DC, Commissioner Barnier will meet with US Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, Federal Reserve Board Chairman Ben Bernanke, Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chairman Mary Schapiro, and Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Chair Gary Gensler. On Capitol Hill, Commissioner Barnier will meet with House Financial Services Committee Chairman Spencer Bachus and Ranking Member Barney Frank.
