Egyptian PM receives senior US delegation

CAIRO, Egyptian caretaker Premier Essam Sharaf received Saturday a visiting high-ranking US delegation, headed by Republican Senator John McCain and included executives of several major US companies, to discuss US support to post-revolution Egyptian economy.

During the meeting, McCain stressed that the US delegation's visit was a message of support to Egypt and its revolution.

He described the United States as a strategic friend and partner to Egypt, adding that the US was keen on backing Egypt's stability and development by supporting her economy on both the short and long run.

The delegation included directors of General Electric and Bechtel, Boeing, Coca-Cola, Dow Chemical, ExxonMobil, Marriott and several other American giants.

The American companies' chiefs said their investments in Egypt stable and successful, adding that they are optimistic about the future and is considering expanding the scope of their investments here.

For his part, Sharaf admitted that the Egyptian economy has suffered a decline in its indicators as a natural result of the revolution, but it started to revive.
Sharaf hailed the US support, noting that US investments will have a significant role in development of the Egyptian economy.

He stressed that post-revolution economy will adhere to the highest standards of integrity and transparency.

The Egyptian government is also keen to overcome all obstacles that stalling foreign investment, Sharaf said.
