Nancy Pelosi leads delegation to Baghdad

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and eight other House members arrived in Baghdad on Saturday morning.

The House delegation is visiting Iraq to assess progress on the redeployment of U.S. troops and to meet with U.S. and Iraqi officials, according to a release from Pelosi’s office. The members will also meet with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and members of the Iraqi parliament and will be briefed by U.S. officials.

The visit, which comes one day before Mother’s Day, follows a stop in Doha, Qatar, during which the delegation met with U.S. and Qatari officials and U.S. troops stationed at the Al Udeid air base.

Traveling with Pelosi are Republican Rep. Roscoe Bartlett (Md.) and Democratic Reps. George Miller (Calif.), Ed Markey (Mass.), Nick Rahall (W.Va.), Anna Eshoo (Calif.), Carolyn Maloney (N.Y.), Steve Israel (N.Y.) and Cedric Richmond (La.).
