The Internet: Accelerating Growth
Paris, May 24-25, 2011

Following an idea by Nicolas Sarkozy, President of the French Republic and current president of the G8, the Heads of State and Government of the Group of Eight—Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States—have decided to place the Internet and the digital ecosystem on the agenda of the next summit of the G8.

The e-G8 Forum will take place in Paris on May 24 and 25, 2011, on the eve of the G8 Heads of Stateand Government Summit, scheduled to take place in Deauville, France, on May 26 and 27.

For the first time in the history of the G8 summits, the Heads of State and Government have invited leaders from the private sector to come together to contribute their thoughts on the subjects related to the Internet and new information and communication technologies.

The President of the French Republic has asked that the e-G8 Forum be an initiative led and financed by the private sector under the leadership of Maurice Lévy, Chairman and CEO of Publicis Groupe.

Global leaders of the digital economy who are invited to the e-G8 Forum will have the responsibility of defining the agenda of the Forum itself—the subjects to be addressed and the content—with the goal of enriching the discussion of the Heads of State.

Organization: The e-G8 Forum is organized by Publicis Groupe and some of its entities, with financial support from the private sector.

Location: Stunning custom-built forum space in the Tuileries gardens, located between the Musée du Louvre and Place de la Concorde in the center of Paris.

Participants: Strictly by personal invitation only, the e-G8 Forum’s explicit goal is to gather leading global players of the digital ecosystem. This high-level community includes CEOs, technologists, young entrepreneurs, industry experts, innovators and bloggers.

Program: The e-G8 Forum will combine plenary sessions, town hall discussions and workshops. e-G8 Forum Theme: The Internet: Accelerating Growth. The reach and impact of the Internet, fastevolving technology and the roll-out of broadband across the world have been huge contributors to economic growth, job creation, education and empowerment in the last decade—and this digital ecosystem will be critically important in accelerating global growth in coming years.

The e-G8 Forum will address how traditional sectors are transforming under the influence of information technologies and communication. It will examine how the digital economy generates innovation, particularly in the fields of education, training and life-long learning. Other key subjects will include intellectual property in the digital era, the growth of e-commerce and the new mobile Internet revolution.

The e-G8 Forum will also address social and philosophical issues inherent in the digital ecosystem: economically, the way in which companies function at a fundamental level is changing dramatically; culturally, digital technologies are transforming the publishing industry and artistic communities; and politically, citizens are empowered like never before, as the world witnessed with the recent revolutions in the Arab world. Finally, the nature of future Internet developments will be discussed.
