Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri Al Maliki called to convene heads of political parties in order to assess their stands over the decision to extend US Forces mandate in Iraq. Al Maliki’s call was not well received by Sadr’s Front which firmly rejects the extension of US presence in Iraq.
Iraq’s Parliament is the party authorized to decide about US Forces extension, the Sadr Front said. Ahrar movement members confirmed that Qatar did not pressure Al Sadr to ease up his stand over US Forces presence in Iraq during his recent visit to Doha, a source told Alsumaria.
State of Law Coalition members affirmed that Maliki’s call for a meeting over US Forces presence in Iraq is positive. They urged political parties to step down escalation while Al Iraqiya ruled out the possibility of resuming armed opposition by Al Sadr Front.
