Business Delegation to Iraq

U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Iraq Business Initiative

June 17 - 24, 2011

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce will lead a senior level business delegation to Baghdad and Basrah June 17th – 24th. The objective of this mission is to demonstrate the U.S. private sector’s long-term commitment to the economic development and reconstruction of Iraq.

The United States has devoted significant resources to Iraq over the past eight years. However, it ranks among the lowest in terms of private sector investment when measured against among its peers. As the United States government refocuses its efforts in Iraq, the role of the private sector will be increasingly important as Iraq builds the enabling environment conducive to foreign direct investment. This delegation will provide participants with several public and private sector contacts to assist in entering or strengthening their presence in Iraq.

During the delegation participants will meet with senior Iraqi government officials and Iraqi business contacts, including potential agents, distributors and partners which will be tailored to the individual needs of the participants. The delegation will be comprised of companies of all sizes and sectors. Of particular interest are companies in the oil, gas and services sectors, financial services, technology, communications, housing and infrastructure and agriculture industries.

The business delegation will be led by the Iraq Business Initiative of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and will be limited to 10 corporate participants for security and logistics reasons. All security and in-country travel will be arranged by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

A $7,500 fee will be charged for each participant which will cover all administrative, security and logistical costs as well as all group meals. Expenses for air travel, hotels and incidentals will be the responsibility of each participant.

APPLICATION DEADLINE IS MAY 20TH.

The Chamber would also like to recognize its lead sponsor for the delegation, Austrian Air, a part of Deutsche Lufthansa, which will be offering a negotiated rate for participants of the delegation. After 21 years, Austrian Airlines is returning to Baghdad beginning June 8th. Baghdad will be Austrian’s second destination in Iraq, together with the city of Erbil, and they will offer a total of three flights per week.
