Iraq''s Kurdistan Chief mulls vacancies at security ministries with Congress delegation
IRBIL, President of the Iraqi Kurdistan autonomous discussed here Monday with US Congress delegation vacancies at the security ministries of Iraq.
Barzani asserted, upon his reception of Senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham, that he did his best to bring views closer among the Iraqi political stakeholders, and to address the problems facing the political process there, a source from the presidency of Iraqi Kurdistan region told KUNA.
The same source added that the meeting tackled the current political and security developments in Iraq, and the attempts made for filling the vacancies at the security ministries along with filling post of the president of the Supreme Council for Strategic Policies to which Iyad Allawi, Chairman of the Iraqi List, was nominated though he apologized in protest of the marginal role which some political parties want him to play.
Further, the meeting touched on the preparations of the Iraqi armed forces for keeping security in the country following the US troop withdrawal by the end of this year, and to what extent Iraq may need the existence of US force beyond the pullout.
On their part, both McCain and Lindsey hailed the role played by Barzani in forming the current Iraqi government on December 21 through his initiative which brought the Iraqi political leaders together in Irbil, then in Baghdad.
McCain and Lindsey called on Barzani to launch a new initiative in order to address the current problems facing the Iraqi political process, stressing the necessity of Kurdistan's President playing a key role in tackling any problem in this respect.
