Cairo, The Deputy Secretary-General of the Arab League said on Thursday that due to the gravity of the latest developments in a number of Arab states, the emergency meeting of Arab Foreign Ministers has been brought forward to May 5.
Ahmed Ben Helli announced in a press conference that the meeting scheduled to be held on May 8 will now be held in Cairo on the 5th at the request of the Sultanate of Oman which will be chairing the Ministerial Council of the League.
"The Foreign Ministers will discuss the latest developments in Syria, Libya, Yemen and how to take an appropriate (unified) Arab position towards them,” he said.
Helli also said that the ministers will take the opportunity to decide upon a new date for the Arab League Summit that was to take place in Baghdad on May 11 before it was postponed indefinitely because of the public protests in the Iraqi capital.
The meeting is also expected to include some discussion of a replacement for the Arab League’s Secretary General, Amr Moussa who’s second term in the chair ends next month.
