Iraqi president Jalal Talabani met Thursday with U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates and his accompanying delegation including the US ambassador to Iraq James Jeffrey and General Lloyd Austin, who commands US forces in Iraq at Salam Palace in Baghdad.
President Talabani stressed the importance of bilateral ties and cooperation between Iraq and the United States. After evaluating the extent of security cooperation between Iraq and the United States, the two sides discussed several security-related aspects in training and arming Iraqi forces so that they can provide peace and stability and maintain the achievements in Iraq.
