Positive impressions following 1st session of UN Compensations Cmte


_GENEVA, Minister of Oil, and Minister of Information Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah asserted here Tuesday that impressions reigning following the first session of the 71st term of UN Compensations Commission were "very positive."

_Sheikh Ahmad said, in a statement to KUNA, following the completion of the first session which kicked off today and will last till 7th of April that, "Kuwait expressed its stance and displayed obstacles and challenges aw well as what we hope to see in the future, and we also focused on permanent and fruitful cooperation with the UN."
Further, Sheikh Ahmad said that the impressions of those present were positive, and that remarks heard by the Kuwaiti delegation were in its interest, noting that the second part of the conference will tackle the practical, applied, and technical aspects of the issue.

_He also asserted that details of tomorrow's session, "will give a clearer picture, particularly as the previous delay on carrying out projects related to environment aroused some concern to this UN ad-hoc Commission."

_However, Sheikh Ahmad said that the steps made by Kuwait like according missions to Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) along with a specialist financial adviser, along with other moves, "aim at giving positive signals that were felt by the UN delegation that visited Kuwait on March 20."

He added that, "the delegation returned with good and hopeful impressions following five days of meetings with Kuwaiti officials, and that such impressions resurfaced at today's meeting and will be practically translated at Wednesday's session."

_The 71st term of the board of the UN Compensation Commission, which kicked off today and will last till the 7th of April, will discuss various issues related to commission's work including reports on the activities of the general secretariat since holding the commission's latest session in November 2010.

_The UN ad-hoc Commission will review the program of following up the environmental remediation set by its board to monitor the technical and financial aspects of this program, the overhauling projects included, and the governments and international bodies'distribution of money due to claimants, and the transparency applied in the distribution process, and the retrieval of the non-distributed funds.
