Iraqi MP says Parliament insists on holding of Arab Summit in Baghdad.
Baghdad, Member of the Foreign Relations Committee in the Iraqi Parliament, Safiya al-Suheil, has said on Saturday that her Committee “insists on holding the Arab Summit in Baghdad and won’t accept the changing of its place,” stressing that Iraq’s position towards Bahrain won’t be the main reason for non-attendance of the Summit by Arab Leaders.
“The Parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee insists on holding the Arab Summit in Baghdad and won’t accept changing its place,” Suheil told Aswat al-Iraq news agency, adding that Iraq’s position towards Bahrain won’t be the main reason for non-attendance of the Summit by Arab Leaders, “despite fact that the recent developments in the Arab Region had a direct impact on that.”
“The Parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee insists on holding the Summit in Baghdad,” Suheil said, adding that “holding the Summit can’t stand any discussion, because it was the Arab League’s decision, and a time, suitable for the Arab States, would be decided for the attendance of the largest number of Arab Leaders and Representatives by the meeting of the Arab Foreign Ministers in Cairo on May 8th.
Iraq’s Permanent Representative in the Arab League, Qais al-Azzawi, had stated on March 2, 2011, that the Arab Foreign Ministers have decided in their meeting in Cairo, to postpone the holding of the Summit in Baghdad from its scheduled time at the end of March to May 15.
