Kuwaitis united over defending state security, stability - FM
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Dr. Mohammad Sabah Al-Salim Al-Sabah KUWAIT, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Dr. Mohammad Sabah Al-Salim Al-Sabah said Sunday that all Kuwaitis are united over the defense of their country's security, stability and sovereignty.
In press statements before heading to Saudi capital Riyadh to participate in an extraordinary meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Foreign Ministers Council, Sheikh Mohammad emphasized that Kuwait has taken all necessary measures to offer the recently-indicted members of the Iranian spying network in Kuwait a fair trial.
"We have helped and cooperated with their lawyers, banned press from tackling the issue to avoid expected public pressure on the court and reached out to their embassies to follow up the trial from the start to the end," he said.
"But when the court delivered its verdict, it became clear that there was a spying network targeting the state security," he added. The minister criticized the Iranian reactions to the trial and the verdict. "At a time when we hoped to listen from our brothers in Tehran assertions that they respect Kuwait's sovereignty, and vows to stop interfering in our internal affairs and to make our relations based on mutual respect, the Iranian reaction totally fell short of our expectations," he pointed out.
Sheikh Mohammad urged Iran to deal with such demands seriously. Meanwhile, the top Kuwaiti diplomat noted that the GCC foreign ministers meeting would focus on the Gulf initiative for resolving the political standoff in Yemen. But Sheikh Mohammad refused to reveal any details of the initiative till the end of the GCC ministers deliberations.
