RIYADH, GCC Secretary General Abdullatif Al-Zayyani said an extraordinary meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Arab Gulf states, held here Sunday, was important because of the key regional, Arab and international developments.
Al-Zayyani, in his first appearance at GCC Secretary General, said the political crisis in Yemen was "extremely important" as it was reflecting on the entire region. Al-Zayyani, who succeeded Abdulrahman Al-Attiyah, of Qatar, said the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) would remain "shielded and capable of confronting current and future challenges."
After Al-Zayyani's key note speech, the foreign ministers began a closed-door meeting, chaired by UAE's foreign minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al-Nuhayyan. Kuwait is represented by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Dr. Mohammad Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah.
