Oman (Muscat) - The two-day Omani-US Economic Forum organized by Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry in collaboration with the U.S embassy in the Sultanate and Iskan Oman for Investment company will be opened tomorrow (Monday) at Crowne Plaza Hotel under the auspices of Darweesh bin Ismail al Balushi, Secretary-General of the Finance Ministry in the presence of a number of officials and those interested in the business and economy affairs in the Sultanate and the U.S.A.
The forum includes two seminars. The first seminar includes an overview on the American economy, the trade environment , the investment opportunities in the U.S.A, the benefits of the FTA for Omani companies , how to find a local U.S partner and an overview on the U.S trade and tax laws.
The second session will give an overview of the Omani economy, the business environment and investment opportunities in the Sultanate, the benefits of the FTA for the U.S companies, how to find an Omani partner and an overview on the commercial laws and taxes in Oman.
Khalil bin Abdullah al Khunji, Chairman of OCCI said that the forum will focus on a number of themes, the foremost of which to prepare the conducive milieu for investment in the Sultanate, promote the Sultanate as an investment hub, highlight the importance of exchanging information on the economic sectors that can attract U.S investors, enhance the economic relations with the U.S.A, increase the reciprocal trade, discuss the practical frameworks for activating the trade exchange through providing business sector with incentives and activate the role of trade and business unions and chambers.
He also stressed the importance of this forum in developing Omani/U.S trade and investment relations on the level of the private sector contributions, enhancing the joint investment, especially with the availability of the legal and legislative environment organized by the trade agreement signed in the last period including the FTA. He also affirmed that there are a number of opportunities in the prioritized fields at the development plans and programmes in both countries.
It is worth mentioning that the forum comes in a bid by OCCI to activate the Omani/U.S economic and investment relations.
