March 13, 2011Meeting of G8 Ministers of Foreign affairs 14-15 March 2011, Paris
The Foreign Ministers of the G8 countries will meet on 14–15 March in Paris. This meeting is part of the preparation process for the Summit of Heads of State and Government, to be held in Deauville on 26–27 May.
The meeting comes at a time marked by historic change in the Arab world. In this context, France has proposed to its partners – who have accepted this proposal – that the large majority of exchanges be devoted to the situation in the countries of North Africa and the Middle East, paying particular attention to the dramatic situation currently prevailing in Libya, as well as the specific issue of the Middle East Peace Process.
Thanks to its ability to address these issues from both a political and an economic angle, the G8 is indeed a forum that is particularly well adapted to proposing joint perspectives in order to respond to a situation that could completely change the global landscape.

The aim of this meeting is to get a grasp of all of the issues – political, economic, social or human – that are involved in this new context.
Among the regional issues that will also feature on the agenda for this meeting, partnership with Africa, as well as the situations in Côte d’Ivoire, Somalia and Sudan, will play a prominent role.
The Ministers will also discuss the other main priorities of the French Presidency of the G8, such as non-proliferation, paying particular attention to the Review Conference for the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention. Discussions are also expected to focus on implementation methods in order to further strengthen cooperation on the fight against international terrorism.
At the end of the meeting, the G8 Foreign Ministers will hold a joint press conference to present the main results of their work. The Presidency conclusions will be made public during the press conference.
