State keen to incorporate civil society in development plan - Sheikh Ahmad
KUWAIT, Caretakers of the state's development plan are keen to incorporate all civil society organizations in it, Deputy Premier for Economic Affairs Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah said Monday.
"Having a dialogue with civil society in Kuwait is a first, as never before this society has been invited to share views in local affairs," Sheikh Ahmad, also Minister of State for Development Affairs and Minister of State for Housing Affairs, said.
His remarks came on the occasion of holding the first gathering for civil society here.
"The vision of turning Kuwait into an international commercial and financial hub by 2035 cannot come through in light of current laws. The laws must be reformed in order for them to go along with the country's development plan.
"This can be achieved through reconstructing local economy, addressing imbalances and overcoming obstacles in the infrastructure, as well as taking care of human development," Sheikh Ahmad said.
Public interest and meeting citizens' needs require the executive branch, along with the civil society, to exert efforts so as to achieve desired outcomes, he noted.
"For the first time in the State of Kuwait we have a semi-annual progress report that validates the state's credibility in the developmental domain," Sheikh Ahmad added.
The gathering saw participation of various civil society bodies, in addition to college students.
