Kuwaiti National Day
On behalf of the people of the United States, I congratulate the Government and people of Kuwait on the 50th anniversary of your independence, the 20th anniversary of Kuwait’s liberation, and the fifth anniversary of the ascendance of His Highness the Amir.
Twenty years ago the United States-led coalition joined the people of Kuwait in liberating your country. But long before the United States stood with Kuwait to defeat Saddam Hussein, our countries were partnering to bring peace, security, and prosperity to the region.
Kuwait is a trusted and valued partner of the United States. The friendship between our two countries is rooted in our shared values, belief in open markets, support for civil society, and mutual interest in promoting regional peace and stability. We are grateful for Kuwait’s support and friendship on a broad range of issues and look forward to strengthening that bond in the decades ahead.
This year’s “Golden Jubilee” anniversary is an opportunity to reflect upon all that Kuwait has achieved as a nation. As you celebrate your history, traditions, and culture, know that the United States stands with you, and we look forward to continuing to work together to build a brighter future for all our people.
