Kurds to vote to national budget after demand assurance
Sulaimaniya, A Kurdish lawmaker said now Kurds have no objection against the Iraqi budget bill and will vote to the bill because all the issues pertinent to Kurds were settled in that bill.
Muayad Tayyeb, the spokesman for the Kurdistan Blocs Coalition (KBC) said his bloc had only two objections to the previous bill which were fixed in the new version.
The bill after the Kurdish opposition was sent back to the Iraqi Council of Ministers for some amendments. The council also ratified the budget Sunday at 81.9 billion U.S. Dollars, adding $3 billions to the previously submitted bill.
The national budget bill is expected to pass second reading in parliament today, Monday.
Tayyeb explained the disagreements between Iraqi parties and Kurdish side in the bill were over reimbursing the foreign oil companies which explore and drill oil in the Kurdistan Region as well as the budget for the peshmarga (Kurdistan armed forces). However, both disputes were settled in the new version of the bill.
“We have no objection against the bill now and will vote to it,” he added.
The Kurdish lawmaker said the Iraqi government has promised to refund the oil companies and the Iraqi and the Kurdistan prime ministers have agreed to meet to discuss the budget for the peshmarga as well as some other issues related to the force status and its weaponry and depots.
