Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari received on Monday 07/02/2011 Neal Wolin, United States Deputy Secretary of the Treasury and United States Deputy Secretary of State (Thomas Nides) and a delegation of senior officials and advisers in the U.S. Treasury and the State Department, with James Jeffrey , the U.S. ambassador to Iraq.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed the Iraqi - U.S. relations, especially after U.S. troops withdrawal from Iraq by the end of year 2011 , and the need of U.S. embassies, consulates and offices in Iraq to alternative procedures and arrangements.
The Minister stressed the government's keenness to develop relations between the two countries through the Strategic Framework Agreement for a Relationship of Friendship and Cooperation, and to provide necessary support and assistance for the U.S. diplomatic missions in the country.
They also discussed the government's measures to protect the Iraqi funds after ending the Development Fund for Iraq next June
The meeting was attended by the Ministry's Undersecretary, Advisor and Heads of America, Law and Protocol Departments.

Visit of U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Thomas Nides in Iraq
In his first overseas trip since assuming office in early January 2011, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Thomas Nides is visiting Iraq this week to discuss transition issues and the future of the U.S.-Iraqi partnership under the auspices of the Strategic Framework Agreement.
Emphasizing the importance Secretary of State Hillary Clinton places on developing the partnership between Iraq and the United States under the Strategic Framework Agreement as the U.S. presence transitions from military to civilian leadership, Deputy Secretary Nides is engaging with Iraqi officials, the U.S. Mission interagency team, and our USF-I counterparts on all aspects of our post-2011 diplomatic presence. During his visit, Deputy Secretary Nides is meeting with Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, Basrah Governor Shiltagh Aboud al-Mayah, Basrah Provincial Council Chair Jabbar Amin Jaber al-Latif, and Kirkuk Provincial Governor Abdul-Rahman Mustafa.
