Washington, D.C. The U.S. Department of the Treasury today announced that Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner will visit Brazil on February 7, 2011

During his visit, Secretary Geithner will highlight the importance of economic and financial cooperation with the Government of Brazil – a key aspect of the strong and productive relationship with Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff’s administration. The Secretary will consult on shared bilateral and G-20 objectives, including ongoing efforts to promote balanced global growth and to reform the governance of the international financial institutions.

Secretary Geithner will travel first to São Paulo where he will meet with local business leaders and economists. While in Sao Paulo, the Secretary will visit Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV) for a discussion with university students; this event is open press. The Secretary then travels to Brasilia where he will meet with senior government officials.

Secretary Geithner’s visit comes just one month after President Rousseff’s inauguration and ahead of President Obama’s announced visit to Brazil in March. The trip marks the Secretary’s first visit to Brazil since taking office in 2009. Additional details regarding Secretary Geithner’s schedule will be available in the days ahead.
