Turkey’s Davutoglu to meet Talabani and Maliki
Erbil, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmed Davutoglu is expected to meet Iraq’s top leaders on Sunday in his first official visit after the formation of the Iraqi government to hold talks to deepen bilateral relations.
Mr. Davutoglu arrived in Iraq on Sunday where he is expected to meet the President Jalal Talabani and the Prime Minister Nuri a-Maliki and top government officials, according to a statement by the Turkish Foreign Ministry.
“The goal of the visit is to strengthen bilateral relations in all aspects” the statement read, “Davutoglu will discuss during his visit the preparations of a Strategic Cooperation Council (SCC) established in 2008 between Turkey and Iraq.”
The SCC promotes cooperation between the two countries in the fields of security and economy.
The council held its first meeting at the level of ministers on Sept. 17, 2009 in Istanbul to discuss strategies for strengthening bilateral security and economic cooperation and generating greater stability in the Middle East.
