Obama to tap two for administration posts

President Obama announced plans to nominate two men to positions in the U.S. Justice and Treasury departments.

Obama said he intended nominate Donald B. Verrilli Jr. as solicitor general in the Justice Department and David S. Cohen as undersecretary for terrorism and financial crimes in the Treasury Department, the White House said in a release.

"I am grateful these accomplished individuals have agreed to continue their service to the nation, and I'm confident they will serve ably in these important roles," Obama said late Monday. "I look forward to working with them in the coming months and years."

Verrilli is deputy counsel to the president. Previously, he was with the Justice Department as an associate deputy attorney general, focusing on domestic and national security policy issues, the White House said.

Cohen was confirmed by the U.S. Senate in May as the Treasury Department's assistant secretary for terrorist financing, responsible for formulating and coordinating the department's counter-terrorist-financing and anti-money-laundering efforts.
