2011/01/17 Iraqi president to ask Arab Leaders to support Iraq’s bid to the World Trade Organization
A senior official said on Sunday that the Iraqi President Jalal Talabani will travel to Egypt on Tuesday to represent Iraq in the Arab League Economic Summit which begins on January 19 in Sharm al-Sheikh.
Chief of staff at the President’s office Nasser al-Ani, said that Talabani will stress the importance of the economic role the Arab nations can play in Iraq in light of improvements to the country’s security situation.
He said that the president is hopeful that the Arab states will become significant partners in the implementation of investment projects in Iraq.
It has also been stated that Talabani will call on the assembled Arab leaders to support Iraq’s bid for the restoration of its World Trade Organization membership.
The Arab League’s Secretary General Amr Moussa said in a statement to reporters earlier that the forthcoming summit will focus on the implementation of economic strategies and projects decided upon in the economic summit that took place in Kuwait in 2009.
