Iraqi parliament will oversee government work says parliament speaker

Karbala, Jan. 8 (AKnews) The Iraqi Speaker of Parliament said on Saturday that parliament will monitor and evaluate the work of the Iraqi government and that the time has come to begin the reconstruction process in the country with the advent of relative security and stability. Osama Nujaifi

Speaking at a press conference during his visit to Karbala, Osama al-Najaifi said that parliament is obliged to take the country in the right direction, in order to assure security and the restructuring of state institutions.

Najaifi went on to speak of the relationship between provincial and federal powers in Iraq and a forthcoming conference in Baghdad to which representatives of all Iraqi provinces will be invited to discuss the subject.

The Parliament Speaker said that his visit to the holy city of Karbala, 108 km southwest of the Iraqi capital, was in order top examine the construction, service and security needs of the province.

“I will visit all provinces in the future,” he added, “The new Iraqi parliament will work to serve the Iraqi people”.

Najaifi was accompanied on his visit to visited on Saturday morning by the Kurdistan Blocs Coalition MP Fuad Masum alongside other members of parliament.

The delegation was received by the governor of Karbala and members of the provincial government.
