Kirkuk Melkert confirms the commitment of the United Nations to resolve the issue of the disputed areas

Said the representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Ad Melkert Wednesday, the UN mission to help Iraq is committed to creating an enabling environment for inclusive political dialogue in order to solve the problems of Kirkuk and disputed areas and promoting national reconciliation. He explained that the UN mission in Iraq is to provide advice with the components of Kirkuk for the purpose of determining the fate of this city, and that officials in the province for the purpose of addressing issues pertaining to Kirkuk through dialogue.

And visited a representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations in Kirkuk, Iraq, Wednesday, and discussed with Abdul Rahman Mustafa, governor of Kirkuk, the problems that plague the city where he held a conference attended by members of the provincial council of Kirkuk, and components, and representatives of civil society organizations.

Melkert said that Iraq is now entering a new era as the UN Security Council, during its meeting in December of 2010, ended its sanctions on Iraq, including disarmament and the oil for food program.

He pointed out that democracy in Iraq en route to the further development, especially after the Iraqi Council of Representatives elections that took place in 2010 and the formation of a coalition government was a good step for the Iraqis.


The Melkert said the United Nations and the international community are working together with the Iraqi government to end all suffering in Iraq in general, and Kirkuk in particular and ensure stability in the country.
