Egyptian Pres. hails Amir's wisdom, urges financing key projects
SHARM AL-SHEIKH, Egyptian President Muhammed Hosni Mubarak hailed here Wednesday the wisdom of His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah which led to the success of the first Arab economic summit in January 2009.
In his inaugural address to the Second Arab Economic, Social and Development Summit, Mubarak called on Secretary General of the Arab League Amr Moussa to convene a meeting by the representatives of the Arab financing institutions to devise the optimal method for effectively contributing to bankrolling the infrastructure projects.
Mubarak also said in his opening address following taking over the summit's rotating presidency from His Highness the Amir that Kuwait's summit approved a number of significant resolutions in order to support the Arab joint action, adding that these resolutions were culminated in the initiative H.H. the Amir for setting up a USD 2-billion fund for subsidizing the small and medium-sized enterprises.
Mubarak pointed out that Kuwait's summit came at a very difficult time following the Israeli aggression on Gaza that caused a split in the Arab-Arab relationships, "though the wisdom of the Arab leaders as well as the wisdom of His Highness the Amir of the State of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, president of Kuwait's summit, contributed to making the summit a success, and so we approved a number of significant resolutions." Further, Mubarak said that holding the Arab economic summits came on the joint initiative launched by Egypt and Kuwait in 2007 with the aim of discussing economic, development and social issues in order to push forward the Arab joint action.
"We are meeting here today to build on what we have already achieved since holding Kuwait summit out of our realization that we have set our feet on the right path, and we are determined upon on bolstering the Arab joint action," Mubarak said.
Mubarak added that the resolutions made by Kuwait summit have called on the Arab governments to ease obstacles before the implementation of regional infrastructure projects, and to achieve legislative compatibility that will help open the door wide before the Arab private sector through the participation of the Arab institutions and funds in these projects.
Mubarak concluded by saying that Arab youth represent more than 25 percent of the population of the Arab world, and so it is important to pay attention to these youth, making clear that creating job opportunities for them is the one of the most daunting challenges faced by the Arab countries, and "we look forward to achieve of goals and priorities."
