Sharm el-Sheikh examine maritime transport and the future framework of the customs union

He said Amr Moussa, Secretary General of the League of Arab States, in a joint press conference with Rashid Rashid, Minister of Trade and Industry after the meeting, the meeting touched on the feasibility studies that have been agreed upon and the completion of the system of maritime transport and the future framework of the Union of the Arab Customs, noting that the Council continued the implementation of the decisions of the previous summit in Kuwait, particularly the initiative to the emir, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for the provision of financial resources to support the financing of small and medium enterprises. He added that among the decisions of the previous summit, which will complete the discussion of the electricity linkage project, food security and customs union, water security and support the private sector and reduce unemployment, improve education and health care, and other topics related to the promotion of development in the Arab world. He pointed to the initiative of the World Bank's participation in the development process in the Arab States, the first of its kind, noting that the coming Arab economic summit to be held in January (January) 2013 in Saudi Arabia.

Moussa stressed that economic reform is necessary and important, in addition to commitment to the objectives of the summit on unemployment and poverty, youth, health and other services; to promote development in Arab countries. He said: "It is not necessary to develop a comprehensive reform plan include the educational, economic, social, developmental, environmental and health system to create economic totalitarian Arab."

With regard to reconstruction of Gaza, Moussa said: "The implementation of reconstruction projects are going a good pace and in need of a faster pace to achieve what we want," calling on Arab states to continue to provide support and assistance to the health of the Palestinian people. He added: "The reconstruction of Gaza under the global spotlight and can not be reconstruction and the siege continues," noting that the continuation of the embargo hinders the completion of the development plan and reconstruction of Gaza. And he called for all Arab countries to work to help the Palestinian Arabs in Jerusalem from the economic aspects and the preservation of their property.

For his part, praised Rashid Rashid, Minister of Trade and Industry, yesterday, the efforts of the Kuwait Arab Economic Summit in the past, affirming that the solid foundation of what will be addressed in the Sharm el-Sheikh.

Rashid stressed that the concern in this summit, "focus on the implementation of the resolutions that were agreed upon at the Economic Summit held in Kuwait in 2009 and to consider the obstacles that led to its failure to perform." He expressed his hope that the Arab common market into force in 2022, calling for the need to move and create an investment climate to promote a comprehensive Arab economic integration.

Rashid said: "This market is not complete until the completion of the establishment of an Arab customs union 2015". He pointed out in this context that there is a lot of previous resolutions, which should be the focus at the level of leaders for files and economic development and to accelerate the implementation of methods for standardization of the existing economic systems in Arab countries. He also stressed the importance of the role of Arab women present and future and enhance this role in public life, as well as the need to strengthen communication and genuine partnership with the Arab societies. The Minister Rashid that the goal of this Summit to give solutions to the challenges facing the Arab countries, pointing out that the creation of employment opportunities in those countries can only be achieved through public investment, private or joint Arab action.

He added: "This investment comes from the budgets of Arab States (surplus) or through the savings of future generations and that is geared to investment within the Arab region," stressing the need to open these investments quickly.

Rashid stressed the importance of the role of the private sector in enhancing Arab economic integration through the promotion of mutual investment activity between the Arab States; will reflect positively on the economies of Arab countries, pointing to the importance of Arab economic partnerships in this area. He stressed the need to work hard and create a good climate to attract investments and increase production, saying, saying, "It can not blame the Arab Businessmen on the direction for investment abroad."

He reported that there is a rational investment funds in the Arab Gulf states worth about two trillion dollars, pointing to the need to work to take advantage of those funds in the work of new projects. He added that there was no economic reform without political reform, pointing out that the majority of Arab countries turned to the economics of free markets. And the existence of mechanisms to ensure the protection of Arab investments in Arab countries, Rashid said: "There are mechanisms to ensure that these investments, including the Investment Guarantee Corporation, as well as the presence of Arab economic courts."
