Sharm El-Sheikh Declaration stresses HH Amir''s initiative execution

SHARM EL-SHEIKH, The final communiqu{ of the just-concluded Second Arab Economic and Social Development Summit underlined here Wednesday the significance of carrying out His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah's initiative for funding small and medium enterprises.

Once the initiative is put in effect, there would be certainly many favorable effects, mainly robust development, lower joblessness and less poverty in the Arab world, according to the document, which was read out by Secretary General of the Arab League Amr Moussa.

Arab leaders renewed their commitment to enabling Arab youth to get actively involved in society, providing job opportunities and emphasizing food and water security, it said.

The initiative announced by the World Bank with the Arab world on Tuesday, covering three fields, notably backing infrastructure, creating job opportunities and linking education output to the labor market, should be put in place as soon as possible, the declaration emphasized.

It also stressed the necessity of achieving Arab food and water security as a top priority for Arab countries, given that climate change could negatively affect water resources in the Arab world.

Arab leaders also vowed to carry on their efforts to complete the fulfillment of Millennium Development Goals by 2015, it said.

Furthermore, fresh partnerships ought to be created by the Arab world with regional and international blocs, including China, India, Japan, Turkey, Russia, African countries and South America.

Finally, the Sharm El-Sheikh Declaration welcomed Saudi Arabia's initiative for hosting the coming Arab economic and social development summit in January 2013.
