Al-Maliki calls for strengthening oil cooperation with Russia
BAGHDAD: Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki on Wednesday called for mapping out a strategy to boost cooperation with Russia in the oil and gas fields, according to a cabinet's statement.
"The premier received today at his office in Baghdad Chairman of the Board of Russian Union of Oil and Gas Producers Yuri Shafranik and his accompanying delegation," said the statement received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
"Al-Maliki underlined the government's keenness to develop relations with Russia in all fields, mainly in economic and oil sectors," the statement added.
He reiterated calls to Russian companies to work in Iraq and to contribute in the reconstruction operations in the country, highlighting the importance of cooperation in investing oil and gas sectors.
For his part, Shafranik expressed his country's readiness to develop ties with Iraq, noting that its time for Russian companies to invest in Iraq's oil and gas field.
