The Security Council affirms its commitment to support Iraq in all fields
Hailed the political agreement and commended the development of relations, Iraq - Kuwait

New UN Security Council at its 6450 meeting in the middle of this month, its commitment to support Iraq in various fields, praising the agreement reached by political leaders recently, while praised improvements in the Iraqi relations - Kuwait, in a move aimed at settling all outstanding issues.
The following is the text of the presidential statement of the Council:
"The Security Council reaffirms its commitment to the independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, and stresses on the stability and security in Iraq's importance to the people and the region and the international community." The Security Council supports an inclusive political process and power-sharing agreement reached by the leaders in Iraq to form a partnership government and national associations representing the categories the Iraqi people and express their will as revealed by the parliamentary elections held on 7 March 2010.
We encourage leaders in Iraq to proceed with the establishment of a federal, democratic, pluralist and unified Iraq, based on the rule of law and respect for human rights.
"The Security Council reaffirms the need to combat all forms of terrorism and it can not be any terrorist act that reflects the path heading towards peace and democracy
And reconstruction in Iraq, a track which is supported by Iraq, the Government and people, and the international community.
"The Security Council welcomes the positive developments in Iraq, recognizes that the status quo in Iraq is much different than it was when the adoption of resolution 661 (1990).
The Security Council also welcomes the significant progress made by Iraq to restore the international status it enjoyed prior to 1990 and in line with resolution 1859 and in recognition of the progress made by Iraq in support of the international non-proliferation and compliance with disarmament treaties and other relevant international instruments, and its commitment to take additional steps In this regard, and provisional application of the Protocol Additional to the comprehensive safeguards agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency, pending ratification, the Security Council adopted resolution 1957 to lift the restrictions imposed by resolutions 687 and 707 relating to weapons of mass destruction and civilian nuclear activities.
In recognition of Iraq's success in closing the remaining contracts in the oil for food program, the Council also adopted resolution 1958.
In recognition of the progress made by Iraq towards the establishment of effective arrangements for the succession and is responsible for the transition of the Development Fund for Iraq, the Security Council adopted resolution 1956.
Welcoming the progress made by the governments of Iraq and Kuwait to resolve the outstanding issues between the two countries, and encouraging greater cooperation between them, Security Council calls on Iraq to comply quickly with its obligations remaining under the decisions of the relevant Security Council under Chapter VII concerning the situation between Iraq and Kuwai.
"The Security Council welcomes the re-integration of Iraq in the region and encourage Iraq and all countries in the region to deepen and expand relations and the establishment of these relations in a spirit of partnership and cooperation." The Security Council reaffirms its full support for the United Nations Mission for Assistance to Iraq to provide advice, support and assist the Iraqi people and government to strengthen democratic institutions, promoting dialogue and national reconciliation, and to facilitate regional dialogue, and assisting vulnerable groups and to promote equality between the sexes, and enhance the protection of human rights, including through the establishment of the Independent Higher Commission for Human Rights, and promote the protection of affected civilians, including women and children and members of religious and ethnic minorities, and strengthening judicial and legal reform.
"The Security Council commends the United Nations Mission, headed by Special Representative of the Secretary-General, for their support in all phases of the electoral process, in line with its mandate.
"The Security Council encourages the ongoing work of the United Nations Mission, in coordination with the Government of Iraq, to provide protection and assistance in creating the conditions conducive to the return of Iraqi refugees and internally displaced persons on a voluntary and safe with dignity, in particular, sustainable return, and stresses the importance to give all parties concerned more attention to this issue.
"The Security Council stresses the role of the United Nations Mission important role in supporting the Iraqi people and government to promote dialogue, reduce tensions and promote a political agreement negotiated on the borders of the country's internal dispute, and calls upon all relevant parties to participate in a comprehensive dialogue to this end".
