The State of the United Arab Emirates welcomed, Saturday, the UN Security Council resolution to end the work sanctions imposed on Iraq and called on Baghdad to meet its obligations to Kuwait.
The agency quoted the official WAM news assistant and UAE Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Tariq Fahad expressing great satisfaction of the UAE towards this positive step by the UN Security Council, which embodies the international community to recognize the efforts made by Iraq to turn the page on the past and solve current problems.
After he Emirati official expressed hope that the complete Iraq's national reconciliation, which is the real guarantee for stability and development adding that: UAE looks forward to continue the brotherly Iraqi his new and completed urgently the fulfillment of all obligations of the other remaining towards the State of Kuwait (..) to ensure comprehensive and final settlement of all outstanding issues.
The UN Security Council adopted resolutions Wednesday, three to end the sanctions imposed on Iraq because of suspicion of possessing weapons of mass destruction and also the oil-for-food.
And allows the three resolutions voted on by the Council to cancel the decisions taken under Chapter VII of the UN Charter, which allows to resort to sanctions or the use of force against that country.
The secretary-general of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon said the lifting of all sanctions, which remain valid conditional on the work of Iraq to reach an agreement on the demarcation of the border and pay reparations to Kuwait.
