Erbil, Dec. 29 (AKnews) – A tripartite committee has been formed to find ways to define the powers of the Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki in a deal that will satisfy all political actors in Iraq.
The three-person committee is formed of a representative of each of the Kurdish Blocs Coalition (KBS), the al-Iraqiya list and the National Coalition (NCC) led by Iraqi PM Nuri al-Maliki.
Iraqi political actors have fears that Maliki may act unilaterally and monopolize the executive powers. During the past four years, the Sunnis and the Kurds were not satisfied with his performance.
The committee has stated working and is expected to hold a session Wednesday, said Fatih Daraghayi, a member of the KBC. “The mission of the committee is set a mechanism to define and organize the powers of the PM in a way that satisfies all actors”
“One of the conditions for us to involve in the government was the defining of the powers of the PM” Daraghayi said.
It is not clear how the powers of Maliki will be organized. The meting Wednesday may draw the question into spotlight.
