Wednesday, December 29th, 2010Pope To Issue Decree Against Money Laundering in Vatican
Pope Benedict XVI is expected to issue a decree Thursday that will ban money laundering activities in the Vatican and make its financial transactions more transparent.
The move comes months after the Italian government seized $30 million of Vatican assets and placed its bank chairman Ettore Gotti Tedeschi under investigation for breaking international financial regulations.
A Vatican statement Wednesday said the decree will bring the Vatican into compliance with European Union and international norms regarding money laundering and the financing of terrorism.
