Seminar urges serious effort to check obesity in Kuwait
KUWAIT, Serious action is needed to check the increase of obesity in Kuwait as current statistics indicate obesity levels at 80.4 percent among women and 69.5 among men, a recent seminar concluded.
The seminar was held by Kuwait National Development Society (KOUT), and the speakers included Endocrinologist (endocrine glands specialist) Latifa Al-Duwaysan who focused on Pituitary Gland ailments and treatment. She pointed out women are more likely to suffer Pituitary Gland malfunctions and urged regular checkups and blood tests to detect and treat these cases.
Another speaker, Therapeutic Nutrition specialist Heidi Al-Saadawi stressed obesity as the bane of our times, and noted the alarming obesity rates among children and adults alike, which reflects poor dietary habits.
As a leading cause to many serious diseases including heart diseases, diabetes, problems and damage to the joints, and high blood pressure, obesity requires proper diagnosis and assessment followed by treatment and dietary adjustment with help of a specialist.
General Physician Samir Ashour meanwhile addressed the issue of obesity in relation to high blood pressure, ulcers, and other health problems.
This was the third seminar organized by KOUT, and was held in cooperation with Al-Salmiyah Clinic. The seminar was followed by a segment of question and answer for members of the public, and free of charge checks for obesity and blood pressure levels were offered, as well as a review of the latest devices available to help with management of the health conditions discussed.
