December 11, 2010Iraq’s Parliament Speaker calls for achievement of national reconciliation
BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Iraq’s Parliament Speaker, Usama al-Nujeifi, has said on Saturday that the first mission of the country’s legislative and executive authorities is to “achieve the dossier of national reconciliation, calling at the same time for launching a national campaign to fight corruption.”
“Among the first missions of the legislative and executive authorities is to achieve national reconciliation among all Iraqi parties that had reached a genuine agreement under the platform of building and reconstruction, away from narrow-party and sectarian slogans,” Nujeifi said in a speech at the 13th conference of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), held in Arbil.
“We must initiate a new phase, in which the Parliament becomes a genuine element for national unity, an element for a delicate observation of its own and that of the executive authorities, an author of laws that lays the platform for a state of legitimate establishments and not of an author of temporary laws,” he said.
