Iraq to participate in extraordinary Arab meeting about a sea-link
Cairo, Iraq will participate in the third extraordinary session of the Arab transport ministers in the Jordanian capital Amman on Dec. 13 to approve a sea link project that will connect the Arab states.
The daft bill has been prepared by the Arab Science, Technology and Maritime Academy to be approved by the Arab transport ministers ahead of an Arab League’s economic and social development summit that will be held in Sharm al-Sheikh, Egypt, next January.
“The extraordinary meeting of the Arab transport ministers will be held to approve the project” said Mohammed Bin Ibrahim al-Tuwaijri, the ambassador and assistant secretary-general for Economic Affairs of the Arab League. The project is important because it will meet “The needs and commercial demands of Arab countries”
Al-Tuwaijri said long coasts that Arab countries had, in addition to the Suez Canal that connected the Middle Eastern Arab states to the North African Arab states, were conducive to the transport link project.
The proposed project includes developing Arab ports, supporting Arab countries to construct sea lines that operate between the main Arab ports, establishing a database for the Arab maritime transport, and developing a multi-modal transport system between the Arab states as well as drafting relevant legislation.
