Ibrahim Al Jaafari elected as NA president

Baghdad, A leader in the Islah "Reformation" said Tuesday that the current's president Ibrahim al Jaafari was elected as a president for the National Alliance (NA) in a meeting not attended by the Supreme Council.

Faleh al Fayaath told AKnews the public body of the NA held a meeting yesterday in the presence of the NA members except for the Supreme Council. Ibrahim al Jaafari was elected as a president for the NA.

He explained that al Jaafari is the president of the NA now, and not the head of the bloc in the parliament, as was claimed by media sources.

The NA used to be managed by a temporary mechanism, until its presidency elected; noting that Jaafari's election will be valid for the current parliamentary session.

Regarding the absence of the Supreme Council from the meeting, Fayaath said it was "not intentional" because the meeting held after the parliament meeting so many lawmakers had commitments and couldn't make it for the meeting, therefore its normal.

Prime Minister Nouri al Maliki said regarding al Jaafari's election that the NA is coherent and could achieve it goals, and to be a strong Alliance, it should have a strong leader and active to improve the NA performance.

State of Law Coalition of 89 seats and the Iraqi National Coalition of 70 seats announced their "National Alliance" in the summer to from the largest bloc.
