GCC Customs Union to discuss WTO initiatives

Kuwait Times -

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Customs Union Committee was to convene its 53rd session here yesterday and discuss, over three days, initiatives by the GCC states at the World Trade Organization.

A GCC Secretariat statement pointed out the event comes to discuss issues including illegal trade in tobacco products, facilitating smoother trade exchange, and GCC states' efforts to support the committee and its activities.

The officials would review accomplishments of past meetings, implementation of recommendations regarding customs centers, and addition of materials used in the makeup of explosives to the GCC list of items with entry restrictions, as well as customs-free movement of vehicles carrying goods within the GCC region.

Steps required for meeting the requirements of the GCC Customs Union would also come up, as well as revoking customs exemptions on cigarettes in GCC free markets in harmony with the World Health Organization agreement on curbing the tobacco trade.

The committee would present its findings and recommendations for review at the upcoming meeting of the Financial and Economic Cooperation Committee. January 19th ~ ARAB ECONOMIC SUMMIT ~ JANUARY 2011~ SECOND ARAB ECONOMIC SUMMIT TO BUILD ON OUTCOME OF KUWAIT SUMMIT: MOUSSA
