Fox News confirms reports saying Hillary Clinton may step down

Megyn Kelly on Fox News just reported that they are also hearing reports that Hillary Clinton may step down and New Mexico governor Bill Richardson may be her replacement. Kelly also reported that the State Department decline to comment on the issue. Considering Secretary Clinton's lack of media coverage on several high level international events, is it possible that she is preparing to exit?

As reported on Christmas Eve on Examiner.com, Governor Bill Richardson just returned from North Korea on an unofficial trip to help defuse tensions between North Korea and South Korea. Although it is not Richardson’s first trip to North Korea, many are saying it may not be his last as there is word of a coming shake up in the Obama administration after the holidays.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton recently announced she has no plans to run in the future for public office. She has also said she desires to move into a role working with women’s issues. Considering that her husband, Bill Clinton has had heart health issues and her daughter Chelsea has recently married combined with the grueling travel schedule of Secretary of State, it is understandable that she may be considering resigning.

The most logical candidate to fill her role is Governor Bill Richardson from New Mexico.

Given his extensive diplomatic experience as former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N and having served in President Bill Clinton’s cabinet in the 1990’s, he is one of very few candidates that could step into her role without missing a step.

Richardson was nominated to be Secretary of Commerce by Barack Obama when he took office, but Richardson withdrew his nomination after he became the target of a “pay to play” corruption investigation. However, he was cleared of wrongdoing in August of 2009.

Richardson leaves office at the end of the year and has stated that he would like a position in the Obama administration. He has a proven record of being effective in foreign policy as demonstrated in 1996 when he successfully negotiated the release of an American pilot and two other Red Cross workers who were taken hostage in war-torn Sudan. He also won the release that year of three political prisoners from Former Cuba President Fidel Castro.

While the Fox panelists, Brad Blakeman and Nancy Skinner, seemed to deny that Hillary Clinton would resign for family reasons, they did acknowledge that if she were to resign, she would be in a perfect position to challenge President Obama in 2012 if there is a call for a primary challenger. By then she would have had time to spend with her family and available to be “drafted” by Democrats who see a need to make sure they do not lose the White House.
