Weekly Weather Report by Kathy Biehl

Whether you celebrate it or not, the Christmas season is always hectic. That word’s an understatement for what’s going on now. Wowie, zowie, do the skies have activity this week. We are still in the thick of complete and utter metamorphosis, which is giving this holiday season a distinct end-of-an-era or even between-the-worlds air.

Indeed, we are between two ways of being. What’s going on is more than closing one chapter and starting another. As a Libra friend put it, it’s more like starting a whole new book. There’s overlap between the old and the new now, along with a large, long dose of transitioning.

You are already keenly aware of how intense this process is. Cosmic 2×4s are being wielded right and left these days. Even for the people who aren’t being hit between the eyes, the news, events and pace is challenging. Bottom line (that phrase again!): Take care of your physical and emotional needs. First.

Do not underestimate the impact all this is having on you. Be kind to your body and your spirit. Get rest. Make time for meals with nutritional content (not just snacking at parties, please). Stay home every once in a while and just be. Monitor your emotions and your physical needs and honor them.

As the recovery programs warn, any combination of hungry, angry, lonely and tired is a recipe for self-destruction.

Disengage energetically from the drama in your midst, too, because there’s certainly enough if you want a reason to go down. But what a waste that choice would be. This is a magical, magical doorway time. Intense, sobering, exhausting, at times alarming, yes, but also awe-inspiring and transcendent, ushering in a life that’s unlike what we’ve previously experienced or envisioned. Why not go through it intact, conscious and as clear-headed as possible?

Here’s the big picture of what’s going on this week. Data continues to come in and movement continues to occur on the foundational shifts in career, home, relationships and personal identity growing out of the Cancer/Capricorn eclipse cycle we’ve been undergoing since July 2009. There’s also an air of finishing up story lines since September and moving forward on them as well. Venus is clearing the shadow of her recent retrograde and handing off what she learned since September to her consort Mars — just in time for him to take her newly honed desires into account as he marches across degrees sensitize by the eclipses. (This week he activates the lunar eclipse of last New Year’s Eve and the solar eclipse of July 2009.)

The personal meaning of all these shifts locks more firmly into place, with the strong sense of being guided by the hand of fate (or a force greater than your conscious mind, if you don’t like the concept of fatedness). When the Sun makes his annual move into Capricorn, he, too, begins traveling across the degrees of the Cancer/Capricorn eclipses and meets up with the empowering, purifying and transforming energies of Pluto.

At the same time the starting gun is sounding for the next eclipse cycle, which will play out on the Gemini/Sagittarius axis through May of 2013. This month’s Full Moon, which peaks hours before the solstice on the 21st, is a total lunar eclipse at the last degree of Gemini.

Let that sit in. A total lunar eclipse at the 29th degree. That is is extreme to the extreme.

Now, this event could certainly enhance the general party atmosphere — Sag, the Sun’s sign, does love to have a good time — but it will likely reveal some over-the-edge thinking and beliefs as well.

The end of Sag can take a my-way-or-the-highway stance, while the end of Gemini can multi-task into complete unreachability or pull a vanishing act like nobody’s business. If you come up against either end, remember that you cannot argue it off its position, because it’s so entrenched that it can neither hear nor entertain other concepts. If someone accuses you of doing that, though, please remember this paragraph, stop, and give the situation a second thought.

This eclipse will be blazing with revelations about what we really believe. Foot-in-mouth disease is a hazard for Sag, so all kinds of unintended and incredibly self-revelatory admissions will be blurted out. There’ll be plenty of incentive to act on what we hear, too. The Full Moon is forming a t-square to the Sun’s ruler, Jupiter, and to Uranus. That’s a dynamic configuration that demands action, and it’s putting pressure on two guys who are primed for that. In plainest terms, that spells Big Change. Quick: When your back is against the wall, what do you really believe? You’ll find out now, and act on it.

We’ve been feeling the early rumblings of this eclipse cycle for a month or so. (A couple of friends with the Sun or Moon on the axis first signaled it six weeks ago by independently and simultaneously shutting down their Facebook accounts — an abrupt rebooting of their information flow and sources.) The immediate meaning will roll out in increments — over the next three to four weeks, as Mercury goes direct and moves out of his retrograde shadow; over the next three months (since the eclipse kicks off the winter season); into next May and June, when the next eclipses happen on this axis; and, to some extent, over the next two and a half years, the length of the entire eclipse cycle. For more on the Full Moon, read my report on the site. (after this at the bottom of this post)

Messages and mental processes continue to be important. Mercury is well into his retrograde and contacting all the planets at the end degrees of their signs this week — pushing against Uranus and Jupiter and cooperating with Neptune and his traveling buddy Chiron. This is an extraordinarily beneficial journey. Harness it, instead of digging into the old accusations and arguments that have a way of rearing their unpleasant heads at the holidays. (The NBC comedy “30 Rock” nailed this concept perfectly with its depiction of the Christmas Attack Zone.) Change your perspective; open your mind; give yourself over to compassion and let yourself (and everyone around you) off the hook for their mortal failings.

A special note to holiday travelers: a lunar eclipse on the transportation axis + Mercury retrograde = anything can happen on the road or in the sky. Allow LOTS of extra travel time. Take water and snacks (and blankets, if you’re driving), and maintain good humor and a philosophical attitude. Some people are going to be just plain irrational, and emotions may be out of control. Whatever happens isn’t being done “to” you unless you choose to experience it that way.

Monday: Fasten your seat belts! More twists and turns are coming in communication, mental processing and physically getting around. They’ve already been dramatic to an extreme so far this month. In many ways our thinking has been ripped up by the roots, what with Mercury having been in intense and life-altering contact with Pluto the transformer. Today he slams against Uranus the awakener. The effect will be like shaking those newly exposed roots so forcefully that clods of dirt and debris go flying off. If you are looking for another way to view a situation, open yourself to insight today. Take special care with transportation, too. Unexpected shifts may bring breakdowns, accidents and out of the blue schedule and route changes.

Tuesday: Happy Solstice! It’s fitting that one of the most important days in the wheel of the year has such astrological commotion. It may be the shortest day of the year in terms of sunlight, but it certainly makes the most of its time, summing up the past as well as setting the stage for the next season and beyond. As you start your day, take a second look at yesterday’s startlers, as well as all the stunning information that’s come to light this month and since the end of June. During the overnight hours, Mercury, Neptune and Chiron are putting within reach a compassionate grasp of the bigger picture and personal healing to boot. That refreshed framework is available to you when you come to consciousness; if you will only try it on for size, you can transmute resentments and bitterness and go into the next season with a lighter spirit. The day’s start also resonates with the Gemini Full Moon lunar eclipse, which occurs as well during the overnight. Revelations are blazing about beliefs about reality (for starters, the importance of higher education and stances toward politics and religion and political boundaries). Chapters are closing; entire books are ending. Remember to read the Moon report on the site. The Sun makes his annual move into Capricorn and officially launches winter in the Northern Hemisphere, summer in the Southern. Watch for the rumblings of his approach to Pluto (exact on Sunday), which is attuning each of us more and more to our imperatives and non-negotiables. People will be expressing themselves uncommonly bluntly. You always have a choice how you proceed and react; being firm and being kind or gentle are not mutually exclusive. Remember that as the general level of talking and running around increases and increases today.

Wednesday: For some people, today will have a golden glow and the nostalgic, corny warm-heartededness of a Frank Capra film. For others, today will bring an irritating and motivating disconnect between our inner fantasy realm and the outside world. Life isn’t pausing for the holiday season. Even as preparations for Christmas escalate, foundation work is proceeding on the new lives and ways of being we are constructing. Today Mars crosses the degree of the Cancer Full Moon lunar eclipse of last New Year’s Eve. What is taking shape in your life? How does it relate to your emotional choices and realizations from the end of last year?

Thursday: The dreamtime shakes up those deep rumblings (see Tuesday’s discussion) and breaks down some inner walls. As Venus makes a growth aspect to Saturn, look for stabilization and real-making of your heart’s desires — not the Hollywood version of them, but the attainable, practical, tangible, supportable form they are assuming. Take note of the rewarding and affirming interpersonal contacts you enjoy today. There’s an underlying sanity and stability in your connections now. They reflect how much you have grown. Acknowledge the extent of your journey to yourself. It wouldn’t hurt to express gratitude and appreciation to the dear ones around you, too.

Friday: When we are in the thick of growth, it’s rare than what can stick our heads in the sand and pretend that life has gone back to something approaching normal. Instead, forces gnaw on us inside and out to keep the process moving. As they do today. The overnight hours lend an edgy tone to what’s going to shape into an edgy day. There are choices on the table and, though we may whistle and look around the room, we can’t take them off the table. An aspect of a relationship isn’t sitting right, with the insistence of sand in an oyster. Dreams just before dawn EST shed some light, and the issue continues to nag and tug and play out all day. The Sun is crossing the North Node, and the air resounds with the sense that Something Big is afoot. Every off feeling, every piece of information and every minor decision are leading to the path we’ll be walking for years. Communication smoothes by mid-evening. In the meantime, pick your battles, which includes not engaging in them. If a relationshp persists in troubling you, ask for guidance when you go to sleep.

Saturday: Merry Christmas! Did visions of sugar plums dance in your heads? Fantastical scenarios of some sort played out in the dream world. Sort through the fragments running ithrough your head for distance on an emotional situation and indicators of what is still not sitting right with you. Being conscious of this will make for a smoother holiday morning; otherwise, your subconscious will be vying for attention in inconvenient times and ways (likely by causing you to gravitate to encounters that will illustrate the problem areas). Is this how you want to be spending Christmas morning? Probably not. Let matters coast while the Moon is void of course (from 4:29 AM to 10:15 AM EST). When she enters Virgo, attend to the little details of the day’s flow (clearing the wrapping debris, prepping and serving food, setting the table, etc.) instead of focusing on anything you perceive as a flaw in another person. Warmth, jollity and an air that feels much more like Christmas fill the afternoon. Enjoy the vibes and keep them lose to your heart when power issues and the relaity of being a grown-up on a child’s holiday roll around in the evening.

Sunday: Concepts that have been building all week crystallize. Clarity locks in about who you are, what you need at this piont in your life, and what you are compelled to do to go forward. The Sun is crossing Pluto, while Mars activates the solar eclipse from July 2009 that set inmotion all the structural redefining we’ve been undergoing since then. The vehicle you’re driving is much less encumbered now, because it’s taking much less along for the ride (baggage and people alike). You’re steering your destiny and will shortly be going full speed ahead.

29 Gemini 20 / 29 Sagittarius 20
TOTAL LUNAR ECLIPSE
And we’re off! December’s Gemini Full Moon is a total lunar eclipse that brings a couple of cycles to a head while shooting us like arrows into a new and major one. It deals very much with where we get our information and what we do with it, and it demands that our beliefs about reality, the world and each other change to match our transformed selves and circumstances.

It’s bringing to a head stories and themes that date to last June’s Gemini New Moon, but has much deeper roots as well. It is also culminating and relaunching themes we last explored from December 2001 into November 2003, when eclipses on the Gemini/Sagittarius axis last occurred. The cycle it is setting in motion will play out through May of 2013, with events in May or June and November or December in each of the years through then.

A Full Moon is always a culmination. A lunar eclipse is that, too, with exponential impact and scads of revelation thrown in for good measure. A total lunar eclipse, as this one is (it’ll be visible in North America, in Europe at Moonset and in Australia and Asia at Moonrise) is even more potent. This lunar eclipse is the most extreme of the extreme, because it is occurring in the final degree of the opposing signs.

But wait — there’s more! The Moon’s ruler, Mercury, is conjunct the Sun and traveling out of bounds — adding even more of a larger-than-life aspect to this event. His participation also prolongs the event, because he is retrograde and will travel back over the point of this eclipse in January after he turns direct.

Revelations, culminations and the inevitable misunderstandings and disclosures of mismatched sets of assumptions that come with a Mercury retrograde are all part of this event. We are coming to the logical — and in many cases illogical — extremes of all aspects of life ruled by the Gemini/Sagittarius axis — our information flow and belief systems. our electronic networks and use/reliance on technology, our attitudes about our communities and the people we see as foreigners, our approaches to learning and credentials, our relationship to the media and the credence we do or do not give it.

Over the long haul of the eclipse cycle expect to see milestone developments in political parties and agitprop, immigration, the role of social media, broadcasting (shifting away from the decades-long TV and radio model), regulation of travel (the invasive TSA screening and concomitant protests aren’t going away) and issues involving the superficiality, depth, truthfulness or reliability of information sources. The personal impact will involve some aspect of how you take in, communicate, process and master information, with the specifics depending on where the Gemini/Sagittarius axis falls in your chart.

For right now, we’re being shoved out of outmoded systems and into brave, new and uncharted territory — all of us, individually and collectively. The North Node, which lends a destined as well as public-wide aspect to the event, is conjunct the Sun. The North Node is between the Sun and Pluto the transformer, who is within close orb of the Full Moon himself. Pluto is still close enough to Mars to pull him into the mix, too, Mars who like Mercury is still out of bounds. This pile-up gives this eclipse the subtlety and precision of a scalpel. Events, realizations and revelations have the fundamental life-changing and motivating quality that we have been experiencing from the conjunction a week ago of Mercury, Mars, Pluto and the North Node. We’re seeing, hearing, realizing and speaking truths, some of which are forcing us to reexamine what we think and believe.

The flip and positive side to that is that we have access to the power and ability to change our thinking — and when our thinking changes, so does our experience of reality. (Form follow thought, remember.)

The Full Moon has another indicator of change. The Sun and the Moon are squaring the Sun’s ruler Jupiter, who is moving into conjunction with Uranus. This configuration is called a t-square. and it forces action through the planet(s) in the middle and into the empty space, in this case at the end of Virgo (discernment and discrimination in thought, physical care-taking and maintenance of proper boundaries). Jupiter expands every influence he touches; Uranus shakes it up, turns it on its side and/ or shatters it. Not a formula for maintaining the status quo, at all. They are a volatile pair on their own; the pressure exerted on them by the Full Moon adds an explosiveness and inevitability to their unpredictability. We can’t stay stuck.

That’s good news, actually. Ossified, outmoding and limiting thinking is being shed; actually we’re being blasted out of it. (With Mercury being retrograde, faulty communication systems may fall apart; too, so watch your technology.) And some of the shifts are an outgrowth of Venus’ long retrograde this fall, which invited exploring the deepest recesses of our hearts, desires and values. Venus is now clearing her retrograde shadow and handing off her wishes to Mars, for him to implement as he moves through Capricorn and continues his own journey of activating the Cancer/Capricorn eclipse points (which he’s doing through mid-January). Every development that happens now is profound and directly hits the foundations of our existence — where we feel at home in ourselves and the world, as well as the nature and quality of our families and partnerships; the big and basic questions of home, family, marriage and career.

The shower of insights and new perspectives raining down on us isn’t limited to the days around the Full Moon. They’ll continue under the last of the three conjunctions between Jupiter and Uranus conjunction, which will be exact just after New Year’s (the first two were in June and September). Mercury’s retrograde will keep them on the front burner until he clears eclipse degree and moves well into Capricorn in January. They’ll last through the winter, too, since the eclipse is peaking hours before the solstice, when Sun enters Capricorn, and is effectively shining its light onto the entire season. And the set the stage and tone for the eclipse cycle that’s starting now. Life will be much, much different by the next Full Moon on this axis (and conjunct this one, with the luminaries in reverse signs), the Gemini lunar eclipse on June 15.

Here is Lynda Hill’s interpretation of the Sabian Symbol for the Moon at 30 Gemini, reprinted with her kind permission from her book The Sabian Symbols As An Oracle, the Special Edition:

A PARADE OF BATHING BEAUTIES BEFORE LARGE BEACH CROWDS

Commentary: The ‘Parade of Bathing Beauties Before Large Beach Crowds’ is reminiscent of the Miss America pageant, where the women line up in their bikinis and their finest dresses. They present themselves beautifully and work hard to make an impact with their looks and grace. Their bodies and their fresh smiling faces are not only to be admired, but also judged by others.

Oracle: In this situation you may feel as though you are only being appreciated for your superficial attractions and beauty without appreciation of your deeper purpose. However, this is what is often needed in order to gain the attention of others, particularly if they are strangers. Be aware that you are getting a lot of attention, so it is important to put on your best face and to present it with confidence as there is a potential audience that may be used to your advantage. It is not really the superficiality of the ‘Bathing Beauties’, but really of the ‘Crowds’ that is revealed here. Those putting themselves on display are doing so by choice and with some knowledge of the fact that they are trying to gain the attention, admiration and appreciation of the people watching. It is the ‘Crowd’ that is responding to basic responses which may vary from seeking simple entertainment to voyeurism. Displays of beauty and physical fitness can bring joy and stimulation from others or jealousy and derision, so be careful of what’s being revealed and whom you are revealing it to. After the process of display and attention has been achieved, there will be opportunities to relate on a deeper level. When you are able to bring the situation to a more personal and one-to-one basis some real value can be gained. Something must begin the process and being noticed for whatever reason is a good start.

Keywords: Being on show. Sheer attraction of beauty. Seeking praise. Displaying all that one has in order to get people to observe and/or evaluate. Beauty pageants. Bathing costumes and skimpy clothing. Beaches. Lifeguards. Beauty judges. Nudist beaches. Breast sizes. The mysteries of the feminine. Playing dressups. Gatherings of goddesses. Mermaids converging. The water element. Recognizing superficiality and shallow behavior. Water nymphs.

The Caution: Using superficialities to win support. Giving importance to the issues of appearance and neglecting the “beauty within”. Too much makeup. Flaunting one’s body and not employing intellect. Lack of water. Leering, jeering. Lusting after the unattainable. Feeling like merchandise. Making superficial judgments.

Lynda Hill’s interpretation of the Sabian Symbol for the Sun at 30 degrees Sagittarius is:

THE POPE BLESSING THE FAITHFUL

Commentary: ‘The Pope’ is an image of someone who has great parental authority, an exalted position and operates with a high sense of this authority, hopefully with spiritual awareness and love. The word ‘Pope’ comes from the Latin “papa”” and the Greek “pappas”. He is dispensing ‘Blessings’ on his people; those who believe in him, his position and his cause. These ‘Blessings’ can come from worshipping a higher power with people of like mind. Dispensing the rewards of faith upon people who are committed and eager leads to an enlightening of those who receive, and also those who do the ‘Blessing’. A major voice will be heard-who is the spokesperson that will be heard by the collective?

Oracle: There is often a need to create or assign someone as the physical representation of what is believed on the spiritual plane. This person of authority performs actions that give our beliefs a feeling of reality and, in doing so, they draw the community together. When you do things that are true to your inner self there is a feeling of connection to a higher power. This feeling is like a ‘Blessing’ and is a reminder of the spiritual purpose of life. The situation or event that is the center of your question may be in need of just such a ‘Blessing’. If you are one of the “worthy ones”, you will probably receive a sign that you are on the true path. If the question relates to a group situation then it may also be that you or someone in the group needs to take on the role of a spiritual representative, a ‘Pope’, and reward the group with your words of wisdom and experience. That will help maintain their focus and motivation and, in doing so, their faith, in what they are trying to achieve. It may be important to show reverence and respect to others, as this will lead to rewards of their own. This can also represent someone having a powerful memory. A noble or regal person will remember the faces and names of huge numbers of people who surround them.

Keywords: Rituals of reverence, blessings and worship. People blessing by a sincere interest in others. Being on the inside looking out or being on the outside looking in. Recognizing the source of enormous inner riches. Rewards for loyalty. Seeking support or recognition from others. Eye-to-eye contact. Being remembered. Charisma and presence. Having an audience with someone.

The Caution: Overwhelming political or spiritual rituals. Lust for power. Negating, projecting and transferring one’s shadow to others. Not taking responsibility for one’s actions. Begging people to dispense favors and blessings. Sucking up to be accepted or recognized. Manipulating for desired ends. Nervous reaction to those of power or position. Demanding obedience. Lording it over people. Leaving people out that don’t measure up or conform. Having people at one’s beck and call.
