Biden-Maliki and discuss ways of removing Iraq from Chapter VII

Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki in a telephone conversation with U.S. Vice President Joseph Biden, the joint efforts to remove Iraq from Chapter VII.

A statement from the White House yesterday said that «Biden spoke by telephone to al-Maliki to discuss the Security Council meeting on Iraq, a high level to be held on 15December under the United Nations and be chaired by U.S. Vice President».

The statement from Biden, saying: The «purpose of this Security Council meeting is to identify the important progress achieved by Iraq, and discuss ways in which the members of which continue their support to the Government and people of Iraq».

He continued: «Biden discussed with Maliki the joint efforts to enable Iraq to return to the international status that existed before the implementation of Chapter VII resolutions, as well as the security situation in Iraq and the progress on the formation of the government».

The Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari met with heads of missions accredited to the European countries, Iraq.

During the meeting, summarized developments in the ongoing political process in Iraq and the decisions to be adopted by the Security Council in its meeting will be held next Wednesday as part of Iraq sought to exit from the provisions of Chapter VII.
